EQT Ventures is looking for a Master’s student
…to write their Master’s Thesis in collaboration with the EQT Ventures Analytics team this spring, based in Stockholm.
THE THESIS
We’re looking for someone who wants to do a Master’s thesis project using the Motherbrain platform. The goal is to test the hypothesis that modern machine learning technologies can automate complex tasks, such as investment decisions, if built in the right way with humans in the loop. That could be anything from applying computer vision or BERT for automated pitch deck assessment to automated predictive modeling of business case scenarios.
Everything’s up and running, the datasets are waiting, the GPUs are warmed up, the real-time streaming pipelines are live and we have a strong team that’s working closely with Motherbrain’s support every day. The opportunities to try things out are just waiting for you, so what are you waiting for?

THE ANALYTICS TEAM
The Analytics team at EQT Ventures currently consists of Henrik and Anton. Since its inception, the Analytics team has been an integral part of making EQT Ventures the most data-driven VC in the world, bridging the deal teams and the Motherbrain development team. We’re now looking for a great team member who wants to do a Master’s thesis with us and loves coding, analysis, business and machine learning. By joining the EQT Ventures team, you’ll support us in our continuous effort of evaluating different approaches to data-driven VC (we have 10,000+ ideas!!).
MOTHERBRAIN
In order for EQT Ventures to be the world’s most data-driven VC, we have our most (artificially) intelligent colleague to support us — Motherbrain. Motherbrain is EQT’s machine learning platform that’s used by the whole EQT Ventures team on a daily basis. This make us better investors by making us faster, increasingly objective and consistent. By constantly looking at millions of companies and learning from what we do — picking up on what works and what doesn’t — Motherbrain helps us to automate more of what we do. This enables us to spend more time getting to know the most promising founders out there. So far, Motherbrain has found five investments for EQT Ventures.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCES
- Passion and creativity: you love to follow the latest trends in the ecosystem of big data analytics and usually play around with new technology and methods as soon as they arrive
- Analytical and statistical skills: you’re really good at analyzing, modelling, visualizing and making conclusions from large amounts of data
- Programming experience: you know coding, are used to playing around with datasets and applying various kinds of statistical functions and algorithms using Python/Jupyter
- Entrepreneurship: you are self-motivated and have a strong drive. Operational experience from a tech start-up is a big plus.
